An internship at TFH is more than just field experience — it is professional experience.

The Feelings Healers accepts interest forms from students looking for field experience on a rolling basis; however, applications must be received by the appropriate deadlines to be considered for a specific semester.
- Deadline June 23 for fall start.
- Deadline November 9 for spring start.
- Deadline April 4 for summer start
For Graduate Students
Look over your coursework. Now, connect all those dots in your mind, and try to envision a bird’s eye view what a day in the life of a therapist looks like.
Graduate programs are an invaluable tool in the journey to becoming a practicing psychotherapist, but for the most part, building professional competence (and let’s not even get to the professional identity part yet…hello, imposter syndrome) comes a little bit from internship and a lot of trial by fire on the job. We know that’s how it works — we’ve been there. Still, we want our interns coming out ahead of the game, ready to be not only competent but thriving upon licensure. That’s why we’ve designed the internship opportunity at TFH to be one that values autonomy, provides clear and frequent feedback, and enables future clinicians to learn to hold their heads high. If you’re going into private practice someday, this is for you. Even if you’re not, you should be equipped to define, build, and honor your professional identity and its worth.
Our clients come from all walks of life, and so do we —
not just because it’s the right thing to do but because it makes us stronger.
Guess what a private practice owner does? Social media, marketing and outreach, attendance at occasional networking events, caring for the office (yes, filling the Keurig and watering the plants), cleaning the fridge, keeping up with events and calendars, sending out admin emails, scheduling clients, leading psychoeducational sessions, inventories and orders supplies, logs communication, follows up on client calls, and overall just supports the practice as a whole.
How do I know if a TFH internship is a good fit for me?
- You plan on or want to explore a future in private practice.
- You thrive in an environment that allows you to explore your strengths.
- You pay attention to fine details but don’t need hand-holding.
- You are passionate about building an authentic professional identity.
- You aren’t satisfied with the status quo — and you have the ideas to do something about it.
- You stand behind the importance of antiracist work in the service of addressing harm caused by institutionalized racism and other systemic failures.
- You are committed to expanding access to mental health care to underserved populations.
- You want your field experience to be fun, meaningful, and challenging.
What is a typical TFH internship weekly schedule?
- 5-10 hours direct counseling (individual, couples, groups)
- 2-4 hours outreach/psychoeducation
- 1-2 hours clinical supervision
- 2-3 hours professional development
- 3-5 hours resource development/marketing
In short, this is where you learn what a badass you are!
