Life is a roller coaster that we all must ride, and my job is to support you through the sometimes messy, sometimes thrilling loop-the-loops on the track.  I started my career working with clients dealing with eating disorders and body image issues.  I now specialize in trauma work, specifically complex PTSD and dissociation.  I especially enjoy working with other mental health professionals, medical providers and first responders, busy professionals, do-it-all moms, and the self-identified misfits of the world.

As human beings, we can endure the unimaginable if there is a “why” outside of our suffering. If not, we struggle, spiral, and get stuck. I help people find their “why”—what’s meaningful and sets their souls on fire. Through our work together, my clients feel empowered, know what they stand for, and feel more confident as they navigate their lives.

What I do:

I’ve been in practice for over a decade and have worked in mental health for…17 years. Wow, time flies! I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and the Founder and Clinical Director of The Feelings Healers. I’m also a mom to a nine-year-old son, a lifelong student (my MBA is done in September 2025!), a public speaker, a business coach, and a Sagittarius with a whole lotta Pisces in my chart. People often use words like genuine, nonjudgmental, nurturing, and direct to describe me.

I’m trained in EMDR and have completed several advanced trainings, including its use with chronic pain and attachment wounds. In addition to EMDR, I incorporate ACT, Attachment Theory, and Emotion-Focused Therapy in my work with clients.

Mentorship became a significant focus of my work when I became an LPC Supervisor in 2020, shortly after opening The Feelings Healers. With some trust and guidance, my supervisees see tremendous growth in their clinical skills and have a strong sense of their professional identity. I help therapists build a solid foundation for their careers to grow and thrive clinically and business-wise.

Stewardship is ultimately what has driven me to branch into business coaching. I work with other mental health professionals to develop values-driven practices—that is, to find the “why” of their careers AND make a comfortable living. I also assist mental health professionals in creating more diverse, inclusive, and equitable practices where professionals and clients feel safe and represented.

As a person, I am anchored by diversity, equality, and inclusion. I believe in creating a safe place for EVERYONE, including those with differing opinions. My clients often have to heal generational and systemic traumas to move toward their meaningful lives. As a practice, The Feelings Healers is committed to destigmatizing mental health care and creating more access to mental health services. We focus on building community through shared values.

Education & Training

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, where I completed a rigorous graduate internship at the Houston Eating Disorders Center. My undergraduate studies were completed at the University of St. Thomas, where I engaged in hands-on experiences through internships at Crisis Intervention of Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center. During this time, I also explored a wide range of religious and spiritual practices, broadening my understanding of diverse belief systems. My most recent adventure is an MBA, and my expected graduation is at the end of this year.

My career in mental health began at The Menninger Clinic, where I worked on the Eating Disorders Program. This experience gave me a strong foundation in the field and deepened my passion for helping individuals. At the Houston Eating Disorders Center, I served as a Primary Therapist, where I honed my skills in group therapy and collaborated closely with an integrated treatment team. My professional journey led me to Southwest Psychotherapy Associates, where I worked for several years, further refining my therapeutic approach before venturing into private practice.

In 2016, I established Murphy Counseling Group, which evolved into The Feelings Healers, reflecting a deep commitment to helping clients navigate their emotional landscapes and achieve holistic well-being. Our team has grown from two clinicians in 2020 to over 15 clinicians in just a few short years. Since then, I have served on a couple of professional boards, chaired several committees, and spread my life’s work through public speaking engagements. I never imagined life would take me where it has, but I’m so very grateful that it has!
