Always compassionate. Gentle direction when needed. Never judgmental.
If you’re looking for a therapist with life experience, curiosity, and zero judgment—a space where nothing is off-limits and feedback is both honest and compassionate—this might be the right fit. Trust and comfort matter as we navigate trauma, attachment wounds, and major life transitions. In-person, grab a fidget toy or weighted plush; online, stretch or curl up on your couch. Feel free to use profanity if it helps express your story. Therapy works when you can be authentic.
What I do:
Sessions with me are warm, inclusive, justice-oriented, and identity-affirming. I work from a trauma-informed, narrative, psychodynamic lens, exploring events in your life to untangle complex issues. With 30+ years as a community college professor working alongside queer and marginalized communities, clients feel respected and safe doing deep emotional work, met with understanding, not criticism. I offer direct but caring guidance and may gently point out when behavior doesn’t align with your values. You’ll encounter my opinions rather than a blank-slate therapist. The process is collaborative. I see us as partners in the work.
Who Are My Clients?
I work with adults of all ages, genders, sexual identities, backgrounds, religions, and abilities. Many clients come to me feeling frustrated or unseen from past therapy experiences. They may appear capable and in control, high functioning to an extent, but inside, anxiety and overwhelm are ever-present.
Some grew up in families that looked fine on the surface but were emotionally distant or chaotic underneath. Now, relationships often feel disconnected, and they move through life with a constant mental filter. Does any of this resonate with you?
Education & Background:
I’ve lived in and around Houston for over 35 years, spending most of my professional life as a professor of history and geography at a rural, Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). This work led me to a second career in psychotherapy. I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Houston–Victoria. I also hold a BA in history and modern languages from Texas A&M and an MA in international relations from the University of Chicago.
Outside of the Montrose office, you’ll find me playing Boggle with my 87-year-old dad. I also love exploring Houston with friends and Austin with my adult kids. When my introvert self is louder, I unwind by rewatching shows like What We Do in the Shadows, Fleabag, or Altered Carbon.
